Breakfast – Day 28

I usually treat porridge as a weekday breakfast and never have it on weekends, but today just feel like some Apple Pie Oat Porridge, so will make an exception!

It’s prepared really quickly: I place 1/2 cup rolled oats in a sauce pan along with 3/4 cup milk, bring to boil, simmer for further 4-5 minutes and then allow the porridge to sit for 5 more minutes to absorb more liquid. In the meantime, I heat some butter in another pan, add a peeled and diced Golden Delicious apple and sauté it for a few minutes, until soft. Taking the apples off the heat, I add to them 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar, allow it to get absorbed, then add 1/4 tablespoon of cinnamon. Finally, I mix the apples into the porridge, sprinkle some more cinnamon on top and enjoy the delicious taste!

  1. I love oat porridge, especially in winter. I buy organic whole oats and put them in the blender so they cook quicker. I’ve found my very simple, basic rice cooker cooks them beautifully.

    Great on mornings stretched for time, just hit cook, rush off to shower and they cook happily unattended because the rice cooker knows when they are done.
